HEAR FROM HUNTERS

Read about how the Whitetail Warrior Project is having a positive impact in the lives of Veterans

The hunt sponsored by National Whitetail Warrior Project was more than just a hunting opportunity. It was an opportunity to connect with fellow veterans that have sacrificed so much; that connection is priceless. The smiles, the laughs, and the emotions through the connections were simply priceless. The accommodations at Willow Oak Lodge were absolutely top notch, but the most meaningful memory was a feeling of sincere appreciation from those associated with the lodge, and the other hunters in camp. It really provided a sense of both sincere gratitude and much needed emotional fulfillment. I am forever grateful for the opportunity, the connections and healing, and the opportunity to spend time with wonderful people.

The Healing Power of the Whitetail Warrior Project

As a veteran, returning to civilian life was one of the hardest battles I’ve faced. The weight of my experiences, both physical and emotional, often felt overwhelming. I struggled to find peace, purpose, and a way to reconnect with the world around me. That’s when I found groups like the Whitetail Warrior Project—a place that gave me more than just a hunting experience; it gave me healing.

From the moment I arrived, I felt a sense of camaraderie and understanding that I had been missing. Being in the outdoors, surrounded by nature, gave me a sense of calm I hadn’t felt in years. The hunt itself wasn’t just about harvesting a deer—it was about regaining confidence, finding brotherhood, and rediscovering the joy of the present moment.

The Whitetail Warrior Project reminded me that I wasn’t alone. Through their support, I found a renewed sense of purpose, a connection to fellow veterans, and a deep appreciation for the therapeutic power of the outdoors. It helped me heal in ways I never expected, and for that, I am forever grateful.

Thanks for everything Whitetail Warrior Project. Me and my son had a blast. Jeff has a pretty awesome place and we are grateful for the opportunity to hunt it a few days. What a great time!

NWWP- thank you for the opportunity. Shawn, thank you for driving up to meet us and give the swag in person. It was greatly appreciated.

Tod, it was great meeting you and sharing campfire stories. Special thanks to you for cooking, skinning deer, and all the coordination.

Scott, if it wasn’t for you this trip could not have happened. Your property is beautiful and thank you for sharing it. Your hospitality, transportation to/from stands, fellowship, campfire stories, and welcoming this Air Force SNCO is something I will never forget!!!!

Eric, Johnathan, and Brad, it was greeting sharing deer camp with you. I slept well last night and recovered. 😜😜

Until our paths cross again, I wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving. Please save my number and call if anyone of you need a place to stay near Little Rock, or would like a nice meal on your way through. God bless all of you. ”

My son Max and I would like to extend our gratitude for granting us the opportunity to join you to hunt. We are especially thankful, as Max was able to harvest his first deer, an experience we will remember forever. The generosity and hospitality that you all have shown has made these moments possible, and we cannot thank you enough.

Sure enjoyed hunting and sharing with you guys. Thanks for everything Larry and Shawn. You guys were great and couldn’t ask for better partners than Joe and Jeff. Thanks to all of you.

A few Novembers ago, I was fortunate enough to be asked to go on a whitetail deer hunt of a life time with the Whitetail Warrior Project in the State of Texas.  For those not familiar with the Whitetail Warrior Project, it is an organization committed to helping wounded and combat veterans enjoy the great outdoors with other military veterans.  Some might ask why such a project is so beneficial for our wounded combat vets?  Well let me explain.  I, Joel Schneller, am a purple heart recipient who served 6 years in the USMC Infantry. I conducted over 100 combat patrols in one of the most dangerous cities in the world, the City of Falluja, Iraq.  During these patrols the stresses, injuries and deaths I and my brothers in arms endured are hard for the average American citizen to understand.  So, when our great men and women return home from these experiences, some have a difficult time adjusting back into the everyday routine of life some of us take for granted. Recognizing this, the Whitetail Warrior Project provides an opportunity for these warriors to be in the great outdoors with other warriors in a relaxing, safe and enjoyable atmosphere to refresh and re- connect with their fellow patriotic service members.  I myself have met some amazing people who have made it their mission to show how much they appreciate the sacrifices the men and women in uniform have made and truly understand our freedom is not free.  This amazing and exciting experience not only provides an opportunity to relax and share stories, but this hunt found me on November 10th harvesting the biggest whitetail I have ever hunted. The reason I mention the specific date of November 10th is it is the Marine Corps Birthday!  One might say this is a coincidence, but for me I believe it was meant to be. In closing I want to thank those who make the Whitetail Warrior Project possible and to know what you do for the great men and women who serve this Country is greatly appreciated.
